Uniform Laws Annotated and the UCC

Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) & Uniform Laws Annotated (ULA)

The Uniform Commercial Code is a model law governing sales of goods that has been adopted (with a few changes) by all 50 states.

The Uniform Commercial Code covers the following areas of law:

  • Sales of Goods (Amended Article 2)
  • Leases (Amended Article 2A)
  • Negotiable Instruments, formerly known as Commercial Paper (Revised Article 3)
  • Bank Deposits and Collections (Amended Article 4)
  • Funds Transfers (Article 4A)
  • Letters of Credit (Revised Article 5)
  • Bulk Sales (Revised Article 6)
  • Documents of Title (Revised Article 7)
  • Investment Securities (Revised Article 8)
  • Secured Transactions (Revised Article 9)

The UCC also contains commentaries by the editorial board that created the code.

Uniform Laws Annotated also contains a list of cases that have cited to specific UCC provisions as well as citations to relevant law review articles.

Some states have created state specific commentary, but that would be found in the state statutes and is not contained in Uniform Laws Annotated.

To research the UCC in a specific jurisdiction, you would want to consult that State's statutory law. If you need help locating a specific state's laws, please consult a reference librarian.
